RAPE-THE
COLD HARD FACTS
Q.2.2)
Here
I will use the process of the solution fluency in an attempt to solve South
Africa’s major rape occurrences.
· Define
(identifying the problem) - The extremely high rate of rape in South Africa
(one if the highest rape rates in the world to be exact).
· Discover
(here we look at how we got to this point and how the problem became a problem)
– As everyone knows South Africa as an extremely dark past. One where racism
and violence towards non-whites were normal. It is agreed that Apartheid had
put South Africa on a very dark future and only because of this Apartheid many
people today are uneducated and poverty stricken. A majority of South Africans
are non-white. The only education they know is crime. It is also said by many who
lived in the Apartheid era that if a non-white person raped another non-white
person they were not convicted hence over the years it’s become a normal thing.
South Africa is a very multi-cultural nation. Many of these cultures believe
strongly in male dominance. All these factors which I have stated have led to South
Africa having one of the highest rape rates in the world. (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/sep/29/south-africa-rape-nightmare-crime-stats. )
· Dream
(thinking of innovative ideas) – How terrific it would be if rape is eradicated
in South Africa. Where the injustice of women and children would just be a
nightmare that never occurred in South Africa. Where women and men are equal
not only in the Bill of Rights but in all South African citizens hearts and
soul. It would be nice to see women who have been abused have the courage to
speak against the injustice for both them and they fellow sisters. Where young
men are taught through education to respect women. As a wise man once said
educate a women you educate the world.
· Design
(Making the dream a reality through steps) – In present perpetrators of sexual
crimes in any nature should get the maximum punishment so that future or
potential perpetrators will see the consequences of this vile action. The most
major thing that can be done is the empowerment of women through education.
Here we can teach women to stand up for their rights by thinking for themselves
and relying on themselves. When a woman is educated no force aimed against her
can succeed. Another thing which has to be done is to eradicate poverty.
Poverty is the mother of all crimes. Most South Africans today still live in
poverty and don’t even have the opportunity of education. If the government
puts in more money, time and effort to solve the problem of poverty which has a
chain reaction to things like rape. The rape rates will drastically decrease if
this is done. They say kill the queen bee and the army will fall. (http://www.thenation.com/article/ten-thing-end-rape-culture/)
· Debrief
(evaluate the process)- I very much think that I have stated will make a big
difference in South African’s rape rates.
